Eating at O’Manuels was probably the best overall meal I’ve ever had.
Tucked away in Taipa Island Village on a cobblestone street, this
immensely popular restaurant is a local and tourist favorite. When we were
dining, a former employee of the Macau Government Tourist Bureau was there. A
Food and Beverage manager at the Wynn Macau and a chef at the Wynn’s Italian
restaurant were there. In fact, the manager along with several friends
including an Asian League hockey player arrived at the restaurant and was turned away
because there was no room. They came back and were almost turned away because they
were about to close but the Wynn employee said he knew what he wanted and
persuaded Manuel to let them in.
That’s an endorsement! The Wynn chef said that Manuel’s
sauces were simple yet multi-layered and that keeps him coming back on a weekly
basis.
We ate the most amazing clams in sauce. Knowing my
gluten-intolerance, my guests couldn’t help but dip their bread in the
sauce—it’s a Macau tradition.
